Triple APOD - October 22, 2024: Alnitak and Friends by Erich Krause

Alnitak is the leftmost star in Orion's Belt, and the sworn enemy of many astrophotographers. One of the brightest stars in the sky, right in the middle of two large, famous, and photogenic emission nebulae is a recipe for halos, reflections, and flaring like nothing else, especially with narrowband filters. Antlia filters have made a reputation for themselves for being particularly good at suppressing internal reflections and halos, and Erich's image taken with their 3nm Sulphur, Hydrogen, and Oxygen filters make for good evidence of it!
