Triple APOD - August 19, 2024: M27 Seestar Roundup by Abdur Anwar

Today's AAAPOD is the result of our first Seestar collaboration, with a total of 5.7 hours on the dumbbell nebula! M27, also sometimes called the apple core nebula, is maybe the easiest to spot example of a planetary nebula in our sky. Planetary nebulae have nothing to do with planets, they're just named so due to usually being very small in apparent diameter, looking very similar to a dim planet visually. The Dumbbell, however, is easily visible in binoculars due to it being so bright and relatively large in apparent diameter, and in even a small scope the apple core shape is apparent. Thanks to the collaboration of all the members in our Seestar Roundup club, and the work by Abdur Anwar of @AbdurAstro on Instagram to compile and edit all the data, an impressive amount of detail and colour is revealed for an entry level smart scope!

Next month's target is the Iris Nebula! For more information about the project and the steps taken to process this image, find this month's Seestar Roundup video on our youtube channel, @AllStarTelescope!
