We love the binoculars in this collection. It’s where you’ll find incredible performance at (relatively) modest prices. Some of the best brands in industry like Kowa, Swarovski, and Zeiss have binoculars in this price bracket.
There is a real ‘wow’ factor when you look through these.
First of all, they’re waterproof and usually nitrogen purged. This keeps your binoculars safe if you get caught out in the rain or if something is accidentally spilled on them. It also helps to keep humidity out of the binocular so they resist fogging or developing any mold inside the optics.
The bodies are armored (rubber wrapped) to protect them against the elements and bumps. The frames are made out of high quality, lightweight materials like magnesium. They're built to last.
The main optics are coated to reduce glare and eliminate strange reflections between optical elements in the binoculars. This helps to make sure your view is good in any light conditions from bright sunlight to night time observing. You also get phase coating on internal prisms to improve color fidelity.
These binoculars have high quality or ED glass to reduce chromatic aberration (CA). CA is a hot button topic on any internet forum dedicated to astronomy or birding. In short, it's a little bit of color fringing at high contrast points in your view. For example, a tree branch highlighted against a bright sky may show a subtle color fringing around the edge.
These binoculars do an excellent job of minimizing CA. There is a pronounced difference in the quality of view at this price point.
You’ll find some of these binoculars in our personal collections. They’re fantastic all-purpose binoculars that will give you years of birding, stargazing, or whatever else you want to use them for.
