Product Description

The main purpose of the OAG is to use the same optical path as the main camera. This avoids the problem of differential deflection that can occur when using a separate optical system for guiding. This method provides more accurate guiding and sharper images.

QHYOAG has three models. The major difference is its different diameter. The three model are QHYOAG-S,QHYOAG-M,QHYOAG-L. QHYOAG is a thin and solid design. The OAG main body is just 10mm thick. Adding an M42 thread or M54 adapter ring adds only 3mm for a total thickness of 13mm. There are six 3mm through holes in the OAG for direct connection to the QHYCFW and QHY A Series cameras.

There is a focuser in the QHYOAG. It is for the focus adjustment of the guider. There is a thumb to lock the position. When focusing please loose this thumb. After focusing get well , lock it. Please do not move the focus ring when in lock status to avoid the damage. When it is locked, you will still find the focus ring can be rotate a little. This is normal and the focus is not changing.

The light patch hole of the QHYOAG is 7mm for the guider camera.

Beware!

Unfortunately, after buying a QHY OAG - S, I quickly learned that QHY often does not play well with others when it comes to their products. The QHY OAG S can only be used with other QHY devices via a ****-on approach, and the included M42 adapters are not only often mandatory, but they are often the wrong size (depth) to be used properly with other products, adding unanticipated backspacing to your optical train.

The M3 **** sizes and placements are also not compatible with many other optical train products outside the QHY line. Also, the QHY OAG S, at least, is too small to fit with most larger filter drawers, and it is completely non-adjustable in any way that might fix this problem. Finally, you'll find that the manuals are very much not helpful (assuming you can find them online I. The first place) and adapter sets that can "fix" your problem are sold by QHY... assuming you are already using one of their cameras, as even these adapter sets are not intended to be compatible with non-QHY brand items.

If I had to do it again, I'd buy the ZWO OAG, which at least has a little adaptability. I don't like ZWO products, but their OAG at least screws on as advertised. But I definitely can't, and will never, recommend the QHY OAG S unless you already have totally QHY optical train already...it just won't work. I had to apply a deeply unanticipated amount of creativity (and additional funds) to get mine even sort-of working. That said, thanks to the good folks at All-Star for helping me through.
